Mount Rainier and Reflection Lake, Mount Rainier National Park, Washington, 1996
When I arrived in the early morning to make this photograph the fog was so thick I could only see about 20 yards in front of me. It was so thick that I couldn't make ANY photographs. So I set up my view camera along the edge of the lake and patiently waited for the fog to begin to clear. About 90 minutes later, the fog cleared, but did so very quickly. I had only a minute or two between having too much fog and too little fog. Luckily, I captured the moment when the fog remained perfectly between the evergreens and Mount Rainier. Being early morning, Reflection Lake was still smooth as glass, so much so that you can see fallen logs at the bottom of the lake in this photograph.
